Stars are one thing that is seen very often in ED, I'd much rather see them be pretty instead of some realistic super bright ball of light. That screenshot is really old too.
Stars also get dimmer the further you get away from them in ED unlike Eve.

Have not really noticed that. Now I'm gonna have to look for it.

No it does not look like the distance the planet is from the star effects the planets brightness when you are in orbit around it. But from afar the planets do look dimmer when they are either small or a long distance away from the star.
